Moose Hunting in Maine

Being in Northern Maine, at the top of the state in Aroostook county, we are located in the middle of thousands of square miles of dense Spruce and Fir forest that is prime habitat for Black bear, Moose, and fur bearing animals.

Maine has a Moose population of about 30,000 animals, and that places us second only to Alaska.

For the 2010 season, 3,140 permits were issued, and 78% of hunters filled their tag.
Every year, several moose exceed 1,000 lbs. dressed weight and trophy racks are not uncommon.

We are proud to offer guided Maine moose hunts for those who have received a permit.
Click here to apply for a moose permit.
You will also need a Maine big game hunting license.

Odds of getting a permit if you are resident, applying for the first time, are about 1 in 107 if you buy one chance.
For non-residents it's about 1 in 700 for every chance.

We hunt Zones 1,2,3 & 5

All of our hunting packages are 6 full days of hunting (Monday through Saturday). Moose that we have taken in the past have had spreads 48-60" and weigh in 800-1,100 lbs. We find the moose in the back of clear-cuts, we walk you in before daylight and set up in the woods line in the back of the clear cut, and we call the moose in to you. Moose, being vocal during the rut, are prone to respond to calling; therefore this is our preferred hunting method. The skill of our professional staff of guides and extensive pre season scouting puts love-sick bulls right in our hunters' laps. Usually, for bow hunters we can draw them in to about 10-20 yards, talk about an adrenaline rush! After your moose is down we will skin it and pack your trophy out for you. We can also hunt out of a boat on the many rivers in the area if you would like.

Maine moose hunting season is usually during the last week of September and the second week of October.
For details on our seasons please visit our Inland Fisheries and Wildlife web site or click here.

During the September the only other animals in season are coyote and black bear.
The October moose season offers the availability of all small game.

We will skin, quarter and cape to prepare for transportation if needed.

All deposits are non refundable. Deposits are transferable to someone filling your spot but are not transferable to someone else who is already booked in.

Depending on the week you hunt average temps may be in the 40's at night and upper 60's during the day. However we can and do get unseasonably warm and cold weather so you should be prepared for both. We hunt rain or shine and typically have 1 or 2 days of rain during your hunt, so bring comfortable, quiet rain gear.
